Are you looking to buy a left handed guitar? I have been teaching guitar for over 20 years now and when it comes to someone who is left handed wanting to learn how to play the guitar, it has always been a problem trying to find quality left handed guitars.

Some people just take a right handed guitar and reverse the strings to be able to play left handed, but I strongly advise against this sort of thing. I believe that a person who is truely left handed should learn to play guitar left handed, therefore buying a left handed guitar in the beginning is vitally important. If you try to play on a right handed guitar when you are left handed, you are going to have a very hard time learning to play guitar. Do it right and give yourself a chance to really learn the correct way. Buy a left handed guitar.

Electric or Acoustic Guitar?

Not sure what type of left handed guitar you need to buy. It really does not matter as to whether you buy a Acoustic Guitar or an Electric Guitar. They are played the same way. However, the electric guitar has a smaller neck and is so much easier to play and press the strings down. It will also cause less soreness to your fingertips when you are first learning to play. If you do buy an electric guitar, you will need a guitar amplifier to be able to hear the sound of the guitar. You can find a quality beginner guitar amp with around 10 to 15 watts of power. Pleanty of volume for home use. I would be sure the amp has an imput for headphones, that way you can practice and not disturb anyone else. A great feature.

Also when choosing that right guitar for you, be sure to select a guitar that is of good enough quality that it won't hender your learning process. If you buy too cheap of a guitar, you will find problems of the guitar not staying in tune, not chording correctly, poor tonal quality, very hard to play, and a variety of other problems. I strongly recommend spending just a few more dollars when buying that left handed guitar and you will be deeply satisifed and glad you did.

One more thing to keep in mind after you purchase your lefty guitar. I recommend you change the strings on your new guitar and put a high quality set of guitar strings on the guitar. Most new guitars have a low quality set of strings on them at time of purchase. Some brand names of guitar strings I can recommend to put on your guitar are Martin, Gibson, Fender, D'Addario, and Elixir. If you don't know how to change the strings, I highly recommend you bring the guitar to your local guitar store and have them change the strings, at least for the 1st time. Once you get familiar with your guitar, you will want to learn how to change the strings yourself.

I wish you the best of luck in buying your left handed guitar and know you will never regret learning how to play the guitar. Learning to play any instrument is a gift of a lifetime, and learning to play guitar is one of the best instruments you can learn how to play.

As I stated above, I have been teaching guitar for over 20 years and have owned my own guitar store for over 35 years now. I have extensive knowledge about guitars.
